What is this service?

The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a cooperative tax agreement between the 48 contiguous U.S. states and Canadian provinces. It simplifies fuel tax reporting for carriers that operate across multiple jurisdictions. The Trucker Consultant helps you register for IFTA with your base state so you can receive your IFTA license and decals.

Who needs it?

Any motor carrier that operates a qualified motor vehicle — generally a vehicle with three or more axles, or a vehicle with two axles with a gross vehicle or registered weight over 26,000 lbs — in two or more IFTA member jurisdictions is required to register for IFTA.

What happens if they do not file or comply?

Operating across state lines without IFTA registration can result in citations, fines, and fuel tax violations in every state you enter. You may also be required to purchase trip permits for each state, which is far more costly and time-consuming than maintaining an IFTA license.
