The FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is a secure online database that contains information about drug and alcohol program violations for CDL drivers. The Trucker Consultant helps owner-operators and motor carriers register with the Clearinghouse, set up their employer account, and understand their ongoing query obligations.

Who needs it?

All CDL drivers and employers of CDL drivers — including owner-operators who are also drivers — are required to be registered with the FMCSA Clearinghouse. Employers must conduct pre-employment queries on new CDL drivers and annual queries on current CDL employees.

What happens if they do not file or comply?

Operating without being registered in the Clearinghouse or failing to conduct required queries can result in FMCSA violations, fines, and a failing safety rating during a DOT audit. Hiring a driver with an unresolved Clearinghouse violation can expose your company to significant liability.
