What is this service?

Form 2290 is the IRS Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) return required for trucks with a gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more that operate on public highways. The Trucker Consultant handles the filing process for you, making sure your 2290 is submitted correctly and on time. Hence, you receive your stamped Schedule 1 — the proof of payment required for vehicle registration.

Who needs it?

Any owner-operator, small fleet, or trucking company that operates a heavy highway vehicle (55,000 lbs or more) on public roads is required to file Form 2290 annually. The filing period runs from July 1 through June 30, and the return is due by August 31 each year. New vehicles must be filed by the last day of the month following the month the vehicle was first used.

What happens if they do not file or comply?

Failing to file Form 2290 on time results in IRS penalties of 4.5% of the total tax due per month for up to five months, plus an additional 0.5% monthly penalty for not paying. Without a stamped Schedule 1, you cannot register or renew your truck's tags. Operating without a valid registration can lead to roadside violations, fines, and being placed out of service.

How much do you charge?

Our service fee is $75 for the first truck and $25 for each additional truck. The IRS tax itself is paid separately and directly to the IRS — that amount is not included in our service fee.
